Whose idea was it to have Rod Steward and Dolly Parton sing this together? Don't get me wrong, I love Dolly Parton, I mean, she's Dolly fucking Parton. But, really, did Rod Stewart sing any good songs...ever, in all his career?? I can't seem to figure him out: is he jazz or is he rock? I actually like both, but I can't stand him. Aside from Earth Kitt's "Santa Baby," the Doris Day/Bing Crosby version of "It's Cold Outside" is my absolute favorite Christmas song. That's not why I'm unnaturally captivated with this dumb Christmas song, though. I can't turn the song off the radio when Delilah plays it because both singers both sound a little cracked out, the nonsense of it is actually vaguely erotic: the music starts slow as Dolly's manic voice shakes to find some kind of common ground with Rod Stewart's pseudo "laid-back-jazz-man-vibe." Then I'm forced to imagine some kind of asexual make out session as Dolly uncomfortably whispers, "You sure know how to wear a girl down, don't you? Okay. Okay" as the song fades into grossness. All in all, I give this song a rating of: disgusting-but-listenable-for-the-humor-alone.
